So You Want Stability?

Fantastically Temporary

Have you noticed how quickly attitudes, concerns, and outcomes are changing? At my “day job” in the aviation industry, nothing seems to stay the same. I’ve been involved in that line of work one way or another for over four decades and it’s always been that way.

Not all people want a fluid lifestyle. I was raised to think that one did this and that happened, whatever this and that were at the time. I came to find out that’s not how life works. As my mother says, “Life is what happens while you’re making plans.”

In truth, nothing is forever. Sure, we may like to think that we have stability in the material world, but it’s a fallacy. Scripture tells us that “time and unforeseen occurrences befall us all.” In other words, Shit Happens. Does this mean that we can’t rely on anything.

Not at all! There are universal laws that never change; the basic one is the Law of Cause and Effect. What we want to happen is more likely to happen if we are convinced it will; or, at least if we are moving in that general direction instead of figuring out how we’ll fail. Knowing this means that we must be mindful of what we are doing and what signals our actions are giving to others.

Recently Timber Hawkeye of Buddhist Boot Camp, wrote this in his newsletter:

We tend to either get obsessively passionate about something or disturbingly negligent, yet only in the middle can we joyfully live our lives by accepting everything as it truly is:  fantastically temporary.

“Disturbingly negligent” and “fantastically temporary” – how awesome are both of those terms! This moment, as you read these words, will never come again. What you read at the beginning is already in the past. The end of the message is in the future. We can only live in the now. How are you enjoying each “now” throughout your day?

I expect you will live a long and joyous life, but that’s not guaranteed for any of us. I’m sure you know someone, or know of someone, who died too soon, too young, or too tragically. Our fragile lives can be snuffed out in an instant.

That is why it’s so crucial to live life to the fullest and in the moment. It’s not to worry about the future, or feel like we can’t rely on anything. In fact, we can enjoy greater assurance of our success by knowing that we are the power behind the life we live. What life do you want to live?

When Chaos is Perfection in Motion

Do you ever feel like your life is out of control? You know, the feeling like you’re on a runaway train heading for a sharp turn? Or, feeling everyone around you is a talking head, screaming at you about what you should be doing?

UGH! Been there, done that, got the T-shirt and the photo mug to go with it. It’s not pretty, but my mom has a great saying when it feels like that:

“Life is what’s happening while we’re making plans.”

It happens to most of us. If I’m in the middle of a writing project you do NOT want to see my desk. Same as when I’m cooking. I use every pot in the house and NO one wants to be in the kitchen. Total chaos, or so it appears to the rest of my family. (They seldom complain, however, while they’re eating the meal I’ve prepared!)

A colleague of mine is an executive of a large corporation. Her company is in the midst of a massive re-organization. She knows the changes will eventually result in a better, leaner and more efficient office. But in the meantime, she recently described it to me as,

“Swirling out of chaos into clarity.”

So if it seems the horses are out of the barn and running through the fields of your life right now, consider my friend’s explanation. No, it may not be pretty right now. I get it. Stand your ground, firmly planted in your principles, but calmly wave and gently move like the palm tree in the hurricane.

You WILL get through whatever you’re going through. The light at the end of the tunnel is NOT a freight train. It’s the Light that will shine the answers to you, with grace, ease and perfection. Can I help support you in some issue through the affirmative prayer known as “spiritual mind treatment?” Give it shot by replying to this email with your request. Or, just click here and we’ll set up a time to chat!

Do You Share Your Drugs?

What’s In Your Medicine Bag?

Have you ever heard of Malidoma Patrice Somé, PhD? He’s an initiated elder in the indigenous Dargara tradition in his village in Dano, Burkina Faso, West Africa. I had the honor of experiencing a personal healing and intuitive session with Malidoma when I was studying to be a licensed practitioner of the philosophies I’ve practiced and taught for over 30 years.

Besides being an elder in his village, Dr. Somé holds three Master’s degrees and two Doctorates from the Sorbonne and Brandeis University. He expressed to me, with uproarious laughter, how silly how thought Westerners were because we all take the same medicines. “Your headache is not my headache. How can we take the same aspirin for different problems?” he asked with a confused look on his face.

Malidoma explained to me that each time he leaves his village he packs a medicine bag of what he feels he’ll need on his journey to balance his physical, emotional, spiritual and mental bodies. His beliefs are not mere superstitions of an ancient culture. They are scientific facts.

According to a recent program on BBC News, researchers at Oxford University are studying how the effectiveness of prescription drugs appear to be affected by the patient’s DNA. Other cutting edge research in DNA are proving that our focused thoughts are capable of changing our DNA, thereby not passing on undesirable characteristics to our offspring.

While I carry a number of aids for my physical health on my travels, there is one thing I never have to pack. I always have it with me. That support is the use of affirmative prayer, what Ernest Holmes developed as “spiritual mind treatment.” By changing our thoughts the rest of our life falls into place.

Later in the summer I’ll be producing two webinars on the use of spiritual mind treatment, or “treatment” as it’s called more commonly in the New Thought movement. The first webinar will be an introduction (or review) for people new to the practice. The second will be an in-depth look at how to insure our treatments are effective. Look soon for the upcoming announcements on those events.

Beginning on Saturday, July 1, my daily “vlog”readings will return to Facebook Live. Through an agreement with Creative Thinking E-Magzine, I’ll be reading the treatments of ministers and practitioners throughout the New Thought movement, along with their quotes for the day and an affirmation. I hope this new service will provide a boost for your day and a focus for your vision. Be sure to check out Creative Thinking for yourself!

In the meantime, what could you use treatment for today? Request one by responding to this email. Or, schedule a free support call with me. Have an amazing weekend and know that you are supported in all that you think, say and do!
