How To Be Happy For Others

Do you rejoice in the success of those around you? Hopefully, we all do. But there may be times in our lives when you or I aren’t as happy for the success of someone as we might want to be, or as we’re expected to be.

The success of our friends, family, co-workers, or people in the news we don’t even know, can push our buttons. Why? Often, it’s jealousy. I like this definition for jealousy:

In jealousy there is more love of self, than love itself.

As Dennis Merritt Jones once said, “I may push your buttons, but I didn’t install them.” Ouch! And he’s right. When our buttons get pushed, when we get jealous for no apparent reason, or when someone pisses us off these are all great opportunities for us to look within at the real reason we feel the way we do.

Thoughts of the other person being better than us, or thinking we can’t have whatever “it” is, can be behind our immediate reactions. One man told me he knew when he’d forgiven his ex-wife after a bitter divorce. He found he was genuinely happy for her when it was announced she was remarrying.

Recognizing where our feelings come from, and in particularly jealousy, is a major step in moving through and beyond this block to our happiness.

Spiritual Mind Treatment for the Week of October 25, 2020

Don’t be distracted by emotions like anger, envy, resentment. These just zap energy and waste time.

Ruth Bader Ginsberg

Let the words below be your words if that feels right for you.

One life. One power. One presence. This is the essence and energy of the universe. Out if its desire to express it creates. I am the result of that desire. I am that which creates.

I speak these words knowing the power and joy of the creative process. I fully appreciate my part in the manifestation of my desires. My success is determined only by one person – me. I accept success and being successful.

When others around me succeed, receive accolades, or revel in their good I rejoice with them. I see their magnificence and know that they have what they have by the same universal principle that creates the good uniquely for me.

I release all thoughts that ego might try to inject into my life. Accepting there is only one power of creation, I relax into the appreciation that all I desire is being magnetically drawn into my experience in perfect and divine right timing. And So It Is!
