Consequences – DO NOT BE AFRAID!

How are you liking this “new world” we’re experiencing? Are you happy with what some are calling a “Greater America” today?

If so, you can stop reading now. Or not.

A few years ago I coined a phrase. If you’ve read my work for any amount of time you’re probably familiar with it:

We have freedom of choice, but not of consequence. Choose wisely.

Another favorite of mine from my own work is:

Learn from the past, plan for the future, but live in the present.

Why am I touted my own quotes? What has this got to do with the news yesterday that the White Supremicist’s House is rumored to be re-designing the robes of the SCOTUS from black to white with hoods? Should a minister say that?

Your damn right I should. If you are appalled at the most uncivilized of any president in history name-calling others for being less than civil then you know we must speak out. Be upset, be angry, be clear, but DO NOT BE AFRAID.

We are seeing the results of the November 2016 election on increasingly serious levels. Ironically, some of the most vocal about how the current administration is destroying the future of our country are the same people that “couldn’t stomach voting for another Clinton.” How’s that workin’ for ya now, precious?

Am I blaming you for all the problems we’re seeing as a result of that election? No. But take some responsibility for your actions and stop blaming everything we see happening on the GOP, Trump, White Supremicists, Nazis, and the Alt-Right (sorry, that was redundant – any one of those could easily describe the others). The current administration didn’t get into power by accident. It was calculated, planned, and manipulated into being what it is today, and we should be completely pissed off and outraged that we’ve allowed this to happen.

Use your energy to fuel projects, goals, and organizations (and yes, candidates in November) who are interested in the values of peace, equality, civility, and diversity. Refuse to lash out at the conservative in your grocery store, or the self-righteous employee with whom you work.

Listen, yes. Seek to understand, yes. But DO NOT BE AFRAID. We are in trying times and they are most likely to get worse before they get better. But they WILL get better. Why? Because history shows us that every tyrant, dictator, bully, and warlord in the past has eventually been defeated. Seek out the good news, even if you must dig deeply for it. Pray fervently, if you are inclined to prayer. Above all, take charge of your life.
